September 19, 2006 - Sonny Burgess Teams Up with Bark Busters

Englewood, Colorado – In support of his current CPI single release “The More I’m Around Some People, The More I Like My Dog,” Sonny Burgess and his dog, Tyson, have teamed up with Bark Busters to support dog lovers and promote responsible dog ownership. Bark Busters, the world’s largest dog training company, will kick off the collaboration by featuring Sonny and Tyson in a nationally syndicated article and dog-lovers essay contest.

According to research at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, many pets brought to shelters are surrendered because of behavior problems that their owners believe to be permanent. Approximately 70 percent of these animals end up being "put to sleep," making death from behavior problems the leading cause of pet mortality, ahead of trauma and disease. This means thousands of dogs are euthanized every year – the vast majority unnecessarily.

“With more than one of every three households owning a dog in the U.S., thousands of people are looking for help to solve their dogs’ behavior problems, explained Liam Crowe, COO and Master Dog Behavioral Therapist at Bark Busters. “Helping dog owners understand the keys to pack behavior and communicate more effectively with their canine companions is the joint mission of this relationship and will be part of the article we release featuring Sonny and Tyson.”

In the spirit of Burgess’ latest single, Sonny and Tyson fans will also have a chance to win Sonny’s latest album, Stronger, by posting a short essay online at www.barkbusters.com explaining why they like their dog better than some humans or why their dog is their best friend. Visit the web site for more details. Sonny’s public service announcements for the Humane Society are also available on Bark Busters’ website or at www.tysondoggy.com.

The relationship between Burgess and Bark Busters began out of a practical need. Realizing some of Tyson's "cute as a puppy” habits would no longer be acceptable with his public appearances promoting the new single, Sonny called on Bark Busters to help train Tyson earlier this year. The 90-pound Tyson was an excessive barker, and he was overly exuberant, jumping and running about when visitors came to the door. Tyson was also working himself into an anxiety disorder by always acting like he had to be on guard-dog patrol 24/7 at the Burgess home. “Tyson’s a very friendly yellow lab, but he’s been know to be quite a handful,” said Burgess. “It was time deal with his behavior issues, so we turned to the experts to learn the right way to address the problems.”

Bark Busters was started in Australia in 1989 by Sylvia and Danny Wilson, expert dog trainers and authors of several dog training books. Sylvia was head of an RSPCA shelter and studied the behavior and communication methods of dogs for years. She was saddened by the number of dogs she saw being maltreated, abandoned and euthanized for behavioral problems, which she knew was due to a lack of consistent leadership. This became the basis for creating the unique, natural training techniques that teach owners how to train their dogs through the use of voice tones and body language, all geared toward putting the owner in control through effective leadership. These techniques have propelled Bark Busters' phenomenal growth – and delivered the results the Burgess family was looking for.

“We got Tyson ‘Bark Bustered,’” explained Burgess. “And he was a star student. Now we’re teaming up with Bark Busters to help other dog owners learn about pack law and a natural way to communicate with dogs to change their behavior – Bark Busters taught us to ‘speak’ Tyson’s language. It’s made a big difference.” For more information on Sonny Burgess, please visit www.sonnyburgess.com.
