I am Amanda Adams, your local South Austin Bark Busters Trainer & Dog Behavioral Therapist. I've been a "dog person" my entire life! Originally from Michigan, I've lived in Texas since 2013 and since arriving in Austin, I haven't looked back! I'm currently the dog mom to two Pugs, a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd mix, but in addition to my own four pups, I am an avid volunteer for the Austin Pug Rescue, so my extended canine family is vast! 

Before joining the Bark Busters family, I worked with dogs daily, running my own doggie daycare, in addition to boarding and walking dogs. While I loved this work, many of my clients were struggling with dog behavior issues. Now, I'm thrilled to be able to help these families live happier lives together with their canine family members!

I cannot even express how much of a difference we see in our dog Brutus! Before Amanda showed up we were struggling with walking, indoor manners, dog aggression and even some nipping at us. After the first lesson, we saw a massive improvement. He was being so respectful in the house. No more jumping on us, nipping or guarding his food!! It took a few weeks of training to see a noticeable difference with walking and with other dogs, but it was soooo worth the wait. Now we can walk down the street and see other dogs with no problem. He just stopped reacting. In fact walking him has actually become fun!!!

I have a nervous whippet and it has been difficult to train him- since he is super sensitive ( or manipulative with bug puppy eyes) . Amanda helped me learn to speak to him and understand his way of thinking - Big changes were made in one session. My dog is already a much better listener. After one session he doesn't follow me everywhere, is more confident laying in a room by his self, waits far from the door when someone knocks, etc. Amanda also helped me to be confident while training my dog through reassurance because I'm a big softy. Amanda is a God send!! We have had continual issues with our dogs and we have had multiple trainers either not believe us or provide guidance that did not prove effective. WOW! Amanda came out and within the first session, my dogs responded perfectly! I was ready to rehome them because I was frustrated with their behavior and no clue what to do. I have an amazing dog, really. But, we had an issue with manners, boundaries and walking. The first session we had with Amanda, teddy wasn't as involved. She took time with the family unit to understand our dynamics and how we interact with not only each other but with Teddy. I love how she called out human behavior that impacts a dogs stability and made real (and realistic) recommendations that made such a huge impact in the first session. I mean, I feel like I have a lot more power in my household and boundaries while still loving my Teddy as intensely as I do. Amanda was very attentive and thorough. I have two rescues dogs with aggression and hyperactivity issues.the initial intake was very thorough and she assessed all of the needs of the household. I started using Bark Busters Dog Training in 2018 after my dog and I were attacked by an off leash dog while on a walk. It was a traumatizing experience for both of us and we desperately needed help with walking/leash training after the incident. Our trainer not only helped rehabilitate my pup, but me as well and we couldn’t feel more grateful. Recently, my dog started having issues with separation anxiety and marking in the house, so I gave Bark Busters a call. When I called, they still have my information on file (6 years later). I can't express enough gratitude for the phenomenal work done by Amanda. After years of struggling with my 7-year-old doodle's reactivity, I had almost given up hope on the possibility of her being able to walk by another dog without lunging, barking, and/or growling. Jill was very reactive when on leash for other dogs. It was a constant struggle on walks. We met Amanda in the mid-afternoon and joined her Pack walk later in the evening. Jill was a transformed dog. There were ~10 dogs around, and she was focused on me and barely looked at another dog. Amanda helped me take my little mutt go from a crazy to calm in just a few hours. She showed me this video of a mama dog correcting her pups and this is what the leader of the pack (me) does. I’m basically mama grunting at them when they do anything out of line or any thing I want to correct. Amanda is super cool and personable and can show you so many ways to get your dogs in line. Amanda is great. If I could give 10 stars, I would. She showed up at the house this evening and Freide was at the door waiting to jump on Amanda. Freide would not let me put the harness on her to restrain her. After restraining Freide, we discussed our goals with Amanda. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first. However Amanda had us crate Freide as we discussed what we would be doing moving forward. We then let Freide out and Amanda showed us how to keep Freide from jumping on the sofa, or even going towards the door, or kitchen. I was totally amazed that in only 20 minutes Amanda had Freide from going on the couch, but towards the door and kitchen. We saw a totally different pup in 20 minutes of working with Amanda. Amanda has been my dog trainer for a year and half now and the things she has taught me not only about my dogs, but about myself are truly life-changing. Have a 4-year old lab/staffy mix who has gone through two trainers and a board & train. She would bark and charge at the door if she saw anything (sometimes when she just saw the wind blow), jump over the couch (and yes, over people sitting on the couch) to get to the door faster and pull so hard on her leash during walks. At first I was hesitant about the training just because I’ve heard a lot of different things about trainers and their methods but when I looked over the page and saw all the reviews I took the chance and was not disappointed. Fabulous! Where do I start? Let’s start with the foundation of Amanda, she’s definitely a big dog and what I mean by that is that she KNOWS her stuff…and she’s not afraid to share it with you! The entire time I felt more confident and in control of my household with two long-time resident dogs and newly adopted shelter dog than I did for a long time. I am optimistic that with understanding the behaviors of dogs, their thinking, and their basic needs — we can be better dog parent/leader. My husband and I learned so much from our very first visit with Amanda! Not only did we discuss techniques to lead our dogs, but a lot of the reasons that might have been causing some of the behaviors in the first place. Amanda is wonderful. We recently rescued a 10-month-old dog 5 week ago, we were struggle with walks, calling, and anxiety (pacing within the house). We had our first session yesterday, immediate results. Amanda taught us how to communicate with our dog, and it was an instant change. She sent us great documentation afterward for us to continue working with our dog. Our cat even noticed the change, stopped hiding from him and was able to play with her toys for the first time in 5 weeks.
