Home Dog Training in Southern New England!

If you are reading this then you're probably frustrated with your dog's behavior and you may be comparing dog trainers and dog training programs. The Bark Busters dog training program is unlike any other dog training system.

Welcome. I am Scot Masamery. As the owner and operator of Bark Busters Home Dog Training of Southern New England since 2006, I've specialized in helping people through difficult situations with their dogs, and partnering with them to solve their problems. Through the years, I have witnessed a lot in the world of canine behavioral modification.

Historically, trainers were taught that dogs, as pack animals, instinctively seek a dominant "Alpha" leader - leading to many dog training methods that focus on asserting authority.

However at Bark Busters we believe effective leadership in dog training isn’t about dominance—it's about building a relationship based on mutual trust, clear communication, and consistency. Dogs naturally look to those they trust, bond with, and respect for guidance. While the idea of dogs being pack animals isn’t entirely incorrect, they thrive when given compassionate, structured leadership. Our balanced training approach respects your dog's social nature but also fosters a healthy, trusting relationship between you and your dog so that your dog looks to you for direction.

Our personalized in-home training brings lasting results where your dog feels most comfortable—at home. We address behavioral issues, socialization, and leash manners with customized training tailored to your dog's temperament and environment. Unlike one-size-fits-all classes, we create a program just for you, working at your pace for as long as needed. Most owners see immediate improvements in our first 3-hour session, with lasting changes through consistent reinforcement.

We use dog-friendly methods. We never use shock collars, prong collars, or force. Our approach relies on effective communication, positive reinforcement, and leadership—without bribing with treats.

We focus on communication. Dogs don’t speak English! We teach you how to use body language and vocal tones so your dog understands and responds to you naturally.

Any dog, any breed, any age, any issue. From puppies to seniors, our training works for every dog. Start your puppy off right or help your older dog learn new tricks.

We are Vet recommended. Veterinarians across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island recommend Bark Busters because we help prevent dogs from being abandoned due to behavior issues. Any dog can be a “good dog” with the right training!

Scot came into my home and taught us proper canine communication. We learned many vital communication skills that brought forth an immediate change in Boomer’s behavior. We are now confident that with the training exercises provided, we can have friends and family over the house without fear of aggression from Boomer. We would fully recommend Bark Busters to anyone who believes their dog can benefit from training and behavioral modification. Who knew it was the human who truly needed the adjustment! Scot showed us many new ways to communicate with our dog that with practice and repetition can bring forth a positive impact. 100% recommend.
Scott was fantastic and super professional. Gave us great thing to work on with our dogs and explained throughly on how to approach any issues that could arise. Very friendly and is keeping in touch to always help us learn to address our issues! Am recommending him to anyone in need of help small to large!
When I tell you how SHOCKED we are with how behaved our dogs are acting after ONE training session! Scot was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also very personable. After a meet and greet over Zoom, Scot comes to YOUR home where your dogs are most comfortable. We are so pleased with all of the training techniques he taught us and the dogs! Scot diligently answered all of our questions and made sure there were no gray areas. For some background, we have two dogs. One is almost a year old, and the other one has some aggressive behaviors towards her little brother. By the end of our first session, both dogs were sitting up on a beanbag together, sniffing and licking each other. Scot is truly a lifesaver and gives you all the tools you need to get through to your dogs. If you have dogs in need of training and don’t want to rely on treats for your dog to listen to you, Scot is your guy. All of Scot’s techniques are catered
We had our first training session with Scot . We had no idea what to expect but it was incredible . He explained everything he was doing and why. He really listened to us and understood our needs and concerns. Our family dynamics is a bit unique, we have a disabled son who needs constant care through out the day which requires many people coming and going . So it is important to us to make sure the everyone will be safe in our home. He is patient and has very easy going manner which made it very comfortable for us to talk to him. He was straight forward with his instructions letting us know it is going to take time so try to remember be patient with Spike and also with ourselves. We have only just started with our home work and we already see improvement with him. We have so much more work to do with him but I know with Scots guidance we will have great success. We look forward with our next
Scot is a miracle worker! My Plott Hound mix is terrified of going outside. Scot and I just spent about an hour outside with my fur baby! My dog was running around having a great time in our fenced in yard. I have not been able to get him to run around before. Scot has a way about him that dogs can really relate to. He always give’s advice that I can easily follow and advice that always works! Thank you so much Scot, you are the best!
Scot is a professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable dog trainer. He is also very easy to work with. In just one session he helped me understand the inner working of a dog’s brain so I could understand why my very aggressive dog was acting the way she was. Scot gave me practical tools on how to correct her aggression by using behaviors dogs use in nature-along with some actual tools that do not harm the dog physically or emotionally. He was patient and encouraging as we worked through different situations. He gives you homework and will check in on your progress. I am very excited to have found Scot as he is the only trainer I have seen actual results with! I highly recommend him!
It was a pleasure working with Scot during our initial training session. He was exceptionally knowledgeable, respectful, empathetic and patient. Scot trained us as owners and leaders as much as he trained our pup Odie. We received clear instructions and tools to work with and plenty of homework. Within 24 hours of his first session, the differences we are seeing in Odie are remarkable. We’re excited to continue our training plan and optimistic we will see deep and long lasting
Scot came to our home today and I was really impressed with his knowledge. We have 2 dogs, a 10 year old Maltese (who thinks he’s Alpha) and Beau, a 9 month German Shepherd. Scot walked us through our specific 4 areas of concern and gave us some great analogies the drive home his points. We were amazed that within 2 minutes he was able to get our dogs to respond to his commands, even the headstrong Maltese! It was great to see and we feel pretty confident we will be able to follow through with training our boys. Thanks Scott!
We have had other trainers to help us with our dogs behavior but none of them have explained the reasoning for our dog's behavior. From first stepping into our home to when he left, Scott was beyond helpful, honest, and very patient. He almost felt like family by the time he left. He spoke with all of our family members (family of 10), asked the appropriate questions, and focused on the dog. He made us realize that not only Ares needed modifications, but the way we reacted also needed modifications. We did see a different dog by the time he left. I cannot tell you how great Scot was. You will just have to give him a try and find out for yourself. Thank you Scot for your time, knowledge, and compassion. You certainly picked the right career! We look forward to working with you.
Our experience with Scot from Bark Busters surpassed our expectations. As an expert in dog behavioral problems, Scot demonstrated an unparalleled level of proficiency and dedication. His thorough approach to understanding our Ollie’s behavior was evident from the outset. What sets Scot apart is not just his expertise but also his remarkable patience and kindness. He took the time to explain his methodologies, ensuring we comprehended every step of the process. It was apparent that Scot genuinely cares for his clients— both human and canine. His philosophy resonated with us, emphasizing a holistic understanding of dog behavior rather than just addressing surface-level issues. In choosing Scot, we found a trainer who goes beyond the basics, focusing on the unique needs of each dog and owner. If you're seeking a behavioral dog trainer who is not only knowledgeable but also patient, kind, and genuinely
Scot holds amazing knowledge about dogs’ thinking and decision making processes. He helps you understand how our dogs really look at us, and how to communicate with them effectively. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since our initial training lesson with Scot, and I already feel like Max is a new dog! He is showing me respect, and is looking at me more as the leader of the pack. I adopted Max, my 2-year old Boxer, about a month ago, and he would randomly start aggressively attacking me, for no reason or instigating on my part. My arms and legs are outrageously bruised and marked up. I cried more than once, thinking and contemplating about how much longer I could physically and mentally handle this dog. Thankfully, with Scot’s guidance and help, I now feel that Max and I CAN do this together, and create a long-lasting amazing bond. THANK YOU SCOT AND BARK
Scot's visit was unbelievable! We greatly appreciate his positive input and peace that he brought into our household just on his first visit! Our Dawson, a miniature poodle will no longer be the ALPHA and is already starting to understand that he no longer makes the decisions! Scot's enthusiasm and positive energy was really calming for us and his knowledge of dog behaviors really showed that he knew what he was talking about! We couldn't believe that within the first 15 minutes or so of his first visit Dawson was already a changed dog! I know for some that may seem unbelievable, and I assure you that I am not getting anything in return for writing a good review! I myself was skeptical, wondering if this would really work and how long it would take to see a change and I am amazed that he has already changed within the first visit! As a dog owner I did not want my dog to be trained elsewhere besides in my home
Atticus and I are getting along so much better! Since Scott came to our home and gave us a clear plan of action, we have experienced incredible positive results. It's working- thank you! Atticus hasn't bit me or even growled at me. He now whines to be with me and "safely" snuggles with me on the couch. We have gone from being overwhelmed and sad to very contented and happy! Thanks again for helping us get to the place where we can enjoy our precious dog.
I have been working with Scot for 9 months! Violet showed aggression with some dogs, was a counter surfer, and a barker! She has reacted so well to the training, and literally acts like a new dog! She is more calm, rarely barks, and is getting better with the counter surfing! I have contacted Scot on several occasions to ask questions or seek guidance with Violet, he is always available! I definitely have put the time into her training, but I know that Scot is there to help. I highly recommend Scot and Barkbusters, it had changed my life and of course Violet’s as well!!
Scot was so great and so helpful. Our dog had been struggling with food aggression and hyperactivity. Scot worked with us to reestablish dominance in our household (Rogi had definitely been thinking he was the boss!). We felt like we saw results in the first lesson, and while it has only been a few weeks, we feel way better about the situation and think Rogi is well on the road to becoming a much better behaved (and happier!) pup!
Scot was very helpful and we learned a lot from the session with him. Our dog Maggie was very hyperactive and did not listen, he taught us how to interact with Maggie so she listened and behaved better. Scot was very informative and gave us easy guidance to follow that will help us improve how we interact with our dog. We are very thankful for his help.
We are so grateful for Bark Busters and our trainer Scot Masamery. Scot was extremely knowledgeable and helped us to understand our dog. After learning some simple techniques and consistency, her jumping, barking and anxiety have subsided and she looks to us for direction. After our first session, our dog is so much happier not being the one in control!
We look forward to showing you her progress!
Thanks so much Scot!
Kim and Mick Aldrich
I just had my second visit from Scot for my dog Violet. This entire experience had changed my life and Violet’s life for the better, not to mention my entire family. She is a different dog, and I’m a different owner. Scot brought back the joy of being a dog owner. Because Violet was unpredictable, I was always on edge, now I feel confident and am able to enjoy walks, yard time, feeding time…literally everything. I know we are both a work in progress, but I also know I have Scot to contact when I have questions, concerns, doubts. I recommend Scot to anyone and everyone!
Absolutely amazing...life changing...I couldn’t be happier. Scot is wonderful, knowledgeable and patient. After 3 hours of training I was able to change Violet’s behavior, and while I know it’s a work in progress, I feel confident and so does Violet. I recommend Scot and Bark Busters 100%!
Scot is amazing! I can’t say enough about this whole experience and would recommend Scot and Bark Busters to anyone who is having any issues with their dog. I adopted a black lab mix named Violet almost 4 years ago. She was definitely making all of the decisions in our home, which as you can imagine is not a good idea! After a very disturbing experience with my niece’s dog I reached out for help. After 3 1/2 hours with Scot I began to “see the light”. It’s been 3 days and Violet is a changed dog. I can see her look to me for cues, she acknowledges that I am now making the decisions and our lives have improved 100%. I can’t wait to see what the future holds! It is a commitment, but one worth making!! The techniques make sense to both Violet and myself! I know that we will continue to see growth over time. I also feel confident that Scot will be there for us whenever we need him.
Our Marcus is a 70 lbs Leopard Catahoula, and he came to us at about a year old and as far as we could tell, he was just as wild as any dog could be. We had a previous “trainer”, but she was inconsistent and after multiple emails to her with no response at all, I was thiiiiis close to throwing in the towel. Marcus would bark and run to the fence around our yard if someone just drove by. Visitors? Forget it. He was jumping, mouthing everyone and after he nipped my mom- who’s a saint- that was the final straw. We didn’t want to give him up, you don’t get rid of your children when they act out, right? You get help. You work as a solid unit. You communicate, and listen. We just had no idea how to do those things; we aren’t dogs. We’re people. We called Scot and after our initial appointment, we could see that he knew what was what, and that his methods would work. He watched Marcus, and he watched us with Marcus . He
I was SUPER skeptical about Scot's service, especially after seeing that the company is actually a franchise and some locations have very bad reviews. I am so glad we gave Scot a try. The way he runs his business is exceptional. Scot should call himself a people trainer, not a dog trainer because he literally taught my husband and I how to speak our dog's language. In one 3 hour visit - I kid you not - our dog was behaving like a different dog. We have a 3 year old super stubborn, alpha french bulldog. Since our first session yesterday we're already seeing dramatic improvements in recall and jumping on people. I'm shocked. Can't wait until our next session where we are going to tackle leash walking. Do not hesitate to book this guy, he's incredible.
Scot was amazing with our dogs. From the moment he entered, he made us feel at ease. He went over the program with us in great detail, explained how we got to the situation we were in, and how we will get out of it thanks to the Bark Busters program. Even as we sat at the dining room table discussing the situation, it was used as a training opportunity. It's said all over these reviews, but after the first session, we already are seeing a huge difference in Rory & Cooper. At one point, Scot went outside and knocked on our door. Normally, that would cause all sorts of chaos and barking, but thanks to practicing what Scot taught us, it was like night and day. We cannot wait to recommend Scot & Bark Busters to all of our friends. It was legitimately a life-changing experience.
Our Westie Charlie has had aggression issues with some of the larger dogs in the neighborhood. He also barks at most dogs from inside the house that walk by. I was skeptical that Scot could change Charlie's ways in a 4 hour session but boy was I wrong. Scot immediatly took control of Charlie and myself. He taught us that Charlie thinks he is the pack leader of our family and that we need to regain control so that he knows we are the pack leaders and not him. Scot taught us techniques to use on Charlie to stop the barking before it starts. It's been 3 days since Scot was here and Charlie is like a new dog. His aggression to other dogs is much better and he's hardly barking at dogs walking by. Scot also taught me the correct way to walk Charlie. Charlie as well as the whole family are a work in progress but I the training tips Scot left us with are really working so we couldn't be happier.
I cannot say enough amazing things about Scot! We were dealing with (what we thought) was a territorial two-year-old Dutch Shepherd we recently rescued. She barked at any dog who walked by the house, while we were out on walks she would lunge and bark at other dogs. It got to the point where we took her for walks at night when we were sure we wouldn't run into another dog. Almost instantly Scot realized she was fearful and used barking as her way to keep people and other animals away. She barked upon the initial meeting, but was quiet for the remainder of the session. Roxy definitely was fearful, but she let Scot pet her and sit with her, as well as our friend, who Roxy barked at even if she just heard him upstairs. Scot taught us how to communicate with Roxy in a language she would understand and taught us how to be the "pack leader." It's been only a few days, but we see such an improvement in her behavior.
Scot was phenomenal - Penny responded immediately and has been an absolute pleasure since her training.
