...It was special to see someone connect with a puppy in such a passionate, yet teaching way and our dog Fraley absolutely loved learning from Kayla.
Kayla is very articulate and gets the dogs to be very responsive and engaged! We look forward to learning and growing with Kayla and our dog Fraley does too! Thanks Bark Busters!
...you see a difference on the very first meeting with your dog. We've been putting in to practice all of the daily activities and exercises and are continuing to see great progress with my 2 year old mini-dachsund, Riley. Kayla is both professional and very personable. I have already recommended her to 2 of my nephews for their dogs, and do not hesitate to recommend her to anyone !
Kayla from Bark Busters is the real deal. She was awesome! Even after having dogs my entire life, learned and practiced so much last evening. It is absolutely true that you see a difference on the very first meeting with your dog.
Kayla came to our home well prepared for our first visit and we saw results day one! Her knowledge combined with true compassion for helping owners help their dogs be the best they can be truly shines through. I love that we are armed with a plan and homework to work on in between visits.
Kayla was excellent - we just had our first visit and learned plenty on how to build confidence in our boy Hammy so he knows to look to us for leadership. Already seeing an improvement on our communication!
Kayla is so amazing to work with. She came to our house with our puppy and taught us so much. She answers any questions I have via text when I’m stuck on what the best thing is for our pup. She always gives honest and educated advice that I truly trust.
I had an amazing experience working with Kayla from Bark Busters! Her guidance has been incredibly helpful in teaching me how to take control and establish myself as the leader of my pack with my dogs, Nash and Bernie. Kayla’s methods were clear, effective, and easy to follow. She took the time to understand my dogs’ behaviors and provided practical strategies that made an immediate difference. Thanks to her expertise, I feel much more confident as a dog owner, and Nash and Bernie are already showing positive changes. I highly recommend Kayla to anyone looking for professional, results-driven dog training!
Working with Kayla and the bark busters training system has been an amazing experience for us and our dog! The training method has built such a close trust and bond between us and our dog. There’s a solution for everything and we always have a great time learning from Kayla - she makes it fun and is a patient and skilled teacher. The health and wellbeing of the dog is her number one priority which we fully align with her on, and she helps us not just with classic “obedience” training (although it doesn’t feel like obedience, it feels like communicating with our dog), but also nutrition and interacting with our baby and anything else we have questions on. We love our dog so much and want the best for him and Kayla is the best!
We can't recommend Kayla at Barkbusters enough! She is an excellent teacher evidenced by her training us on how to train our dog. In only a few months (even after our first session) we have already curbed several negative behaviors and learned a lot. We are eager to continue working with Kayla and Barkbusters until all negative behaviors are extinguished!
Bark busters and Kayla are the only reason we have our dog today. We rescued our dog Leo in April of 2023 and he is fear aggressive due to his trauma. We called Kayla and she came out within days of our call. After just one visit of Kayla coming Leo was a different dog! She was able to teach us everything we needed to do in order to get a loving and happy dog! We went from a dog who couldn’t even go over our families house or be around dogs to now can sleep over with his best bud Steve without us!! My husband and I owe everything to Kayla and bark busters! We are forever grateful!
Kayla is an outstanding dog trainer! We first met her in 2022 when we needed help with our dog, Bruin, after our move to the suburbs. Fast forward to 2025, with the arrival of our son, we turned to her again for guidance. Kayla was incredibly responsive and promptly scheduled our training session. Her patience and expert advice, along with practical homework assignments will absolutely improve his behavior. We can't thank her enough for her support and expertise! Highly recommend! We are so glad we chose Bark Busters for our dog training needs. Their proven methods and personalized approach make all the difference. The support we received from Kayla has been exceptional, providing us with the tools and confidence to create a positive environment for Bruin. Knowing we have such a reliable resource for our dog's training has made our transition into family life smoother and more enjoyable. Bark Busters
Tonight was my first training session with Kayla — AMAZING. I have 2 dogs - both 4 years old (one with very bad separation anxiety that poops in my house weekly and one that will not stop barking when someone is at the front door) I was at my wits end with my dogs & after my first session with Kayla, I actually feel hopeful regarding my dogs again. She gave us tips that I have not found while doing research on YouTube or Google - she is like a dog whisperer. If you can afford it or can save up to afford it, it is 100% worth it. The price honestly isn’t bad when you think about it being a lifetime of working with your dog. She also gave so many amazing recommendations from food, treats, chews, dental health - honestly felt like a wellness visit - she is extremely educated and up to date on the best products for your pup! If you feel like you’re not sure on where to start with training your dogs or if there is just something really
Kayla is amazing! She’s great at communicating with both humans and dogs. She’s been really helpful as my new rescue dog and I get used to each other and work through things like separation anxiety.
We had Kayla come for the first time this past Saturday. She was so informative and my husband and I both really learned a lot. You can tell there is so much passion behind her work. She was really patient as she coached us to begin training our dog, Ivy. We can’t wait to build consistent routines that will last with Ivy!
Kayla is absolutely wonderful. We have learned so much about dog behavior, nutrition, and positive reinforcement training. Remington has responded very well to her instructions. Training is just as much for us as it is for the dog. It takes daily work and consistency, she has helped us draw up a plan to keep on track. Highly recommend Bark Busters and Kayla.
We just moved our 9 year old rescue from New Hampshire to the city and she is having a hard time adjusting to seeing other dogs and being alone in our apartment. We had Kayla come over to help address some issues with separation anxiety and leash reactivity. She provided us with easy changes to make throughout our day that will help her adjust to her new life in the city and help us to become Luna’s leader. She’s only been here about two weeks but already we are seeing improvement in Luna’s separation anxiety and reactivity. Kayla was so helpful providing us easy changes to make and I am already feeling some relief that Luna will be just fine as a city girl! Looking forward to continuing training with Kayla and making Luna feel safe in her new environment! Thank you Kayla!!
Kayla at Bark Busters has been instrumental in our training process. We have two Bernese Mountain Dogs, one of which has high energy and a bit of anxiety. We have been struggling with a few behaviors including, excessive barking, door control, and jumping on guests (from being overly excited). We tried a few different training methods and were not having success. After two training sessions with Kayla, we are seeing significant progress. We are very thankful and look forward to continuing working with her!
I truly can’t say enough good things about Kayla. She is knowledgeable, patient, & thorough. She gave us so much guidance in the first session and the response from our dog was immediate. She helped us learn how to communicate with our dog gently but firmly. I love that there was no use of prong or shock collars. Highly recommend her! It was a true pleasure to work with her.
KAYLA WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH. WE HAVE AN 11-WEEK-OLD GOLDEN PUPPY NAMED EMERALD. WE WANTED TO START TRAINING EARLY SO EMERALD WOULD HAVE THE BEST LIFE POSSIBLE. A WELL-TRAINED DOG HAS MORE FREEDOM. PUPPY MANAGEMENT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ENSURE WE CREATE A BEAUTIFUL BOND BETWEEN US. KAYLA EXPLAINED VERY CLEARLY THE BARK BUSTER APPROACH TO COMMUNICATING WITH OUR PUPPY. ALREADY WE HAVE SEEN A DIFFERENCE AND BECAUSE OF THIS PHILOSPHY EMERALD IS LEARNING QUICKLY AND HAS LEARNED TO RESPECT US AND FOLLOW OUR LEAD. WE A THRILLED SHE IS RESPONDING SO WELL AND LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT TRAINING SESSION. THANK YOU KAYLA!
Willy is an (almost) 5 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who did not respect me as his mom/leader and everything was always on his terms. He dictated where we went on walks and when we would turn back home. He would not come back in the house from the yard without getting a treat. He also has crazy barking episodes in the yard. He would not let me put his leash on without a game of chase. He would get into my underwear (left on the bathroom floor) and would not give it up without getting aggressive/defensive. Willy is shy with strangers but he welcomed Kayla into our home with no problem. Kayla showed me how to address all of his issues and during our session we already saw great improvement and Willy's newfound respect for me. She was very detailed and honest about my expectations. She also provided good information on his diet. The night after our session, I told Willy to "come" so that I could put his
I first met Kayla 3 years ago after I adopted a girl puppy from Puerto Rico who needed help !! She had really bad anxiety and always seemed so scared. She was also a jumper and would steal food off counters. I knew she needed help !! I did so much research trying to find the best fit for us and it was well worth the time spent!! As soon as Kayla entered the house and got to know Josie she already knew she was a good puppy !! We focused on how the trash trucks scared her and she would hide under my desk shaking. We also worked on her pulling me during walks or even bringing her out for a walk or to the bathroom. I was taught so many techniques that helped Josie so much !! Kayla has been there for me whenever something happened with Josie. She reassured me when I was struggling !! She taught me to be the leader and it worked !! Welp I get a 2nd dog from Aruba. He was 6 months old when I got
I just want to say Kayla is the real dog whisperer! She is absolutely amazing. For 9 weeks my female dog was petrified of me. Within about 2 hours of being with us, Kayla had my Kaia sitting next to me on the couch, which she had never done. That was 1 week ago today. Things have only gotten 100 % better. She’s walking with me, giving me her paw, and waiting at the door when I come home. Truly amazing. And we are not done yet. I can only wait until the next time Kayla visits our home and how much better our little girl will be. I would recommend Barkbusters, and be sure to request Kayla. You won’t be disappointed. Again, absolutely amazing. Cesar Milan should beware.
Our dog’s breed: Some mix of herder (Aussie/Border/Whatever else). 50 pounds. Gentle, smart, intense, AND has an overwhelming territorial aggression. Will attack visitors. First off this will sound like a fake testimonial, but after *one lesson* with Randy we have control of our dog’s intensive aggression toward people coming to our house. This is a situation that has basically kept us (and our college age kids) from inviting anyone over, ever. Levi would instantly attack and go for the bite. Randy helped us understand dog brain and instead of using devices to try to break the behavior, Randy used Levi’s natural instincts help us establish dominance and control. Randy gave us strategies based on our particular needs and living space. The strategies are easy to use and remember and are humane. It is day 2 and we’ve had two unfamiliar visitors already. We used Randy’s strategies and Levi was calm and in control and
Having Bark Busters in our home was the best decision we made
The talent and time spent on our pup was extremely valuable
So much knowledge to have and use to set our puppy up for a successful future
After trying multiple rounds of group training without my issues being resolved, I reached out to Bark Busters after hearing about them from a friend. I just had my first training session with Randy and am feeling way more relieved. He kept the training fun and engaging, while also making necessary corrections to both myself and Hunter. He even got my “ not the one that goes to training” mother involved. Our first session flew by and I feel more confident going into our future sessions. I would totally recommend Bark Busters for all training needs and definitely worth the money knowing they will always be available for Hunter for years to come.
When I thought all hope was over....Randy came to our rescue. Well worth every penny and so happy that we called. My sweet dogs in one session have shown great improvement. Thank you Randy for your expertise.

Potty training a Dachshund puppy

New Puppy? Need to Start Potty Training?

There's no way around it, potty training is essential for new puppy owners. Your puppy has not yet developed the awareness or physical capability to control bodily functions like an adult dog. Establishing a toilet training routine with puppies requires time, effort, and consistency to yield results, but don't worry Bark Busters Boston North is here to help.

Tips for Potty Training Your Pup

In addition to regular trips outside, there are six key moments to take your pup outside to potty: when they wake up, before they go to bed, when they’ve been eating or drinking, if they’re frightened or anxious, if they’re excited from play, and right after someone gets home.

I always say my number one rule with a puppy is if you don’t have eyes on them, they need to be contained. Whether that is in a playpen or a crate. You need to be able to correct the behavior in the moment so that you can redirect them to where you want them to go and then praise them afterwards.

Dogs learn by association so it will take them some time to figure out where you want them to go. The same is for teaching commands, it takes repetition for the dog to associate the command with an action!

I always use natural cleaning products and my go to for potty clean up is 50/50 water and vinegar to get the smell out. If it smells like a toilet, it must be a toilet! No need to buy expensive cleaning products.

Puppy sleeping peacefully in a dog crate

Should You Crate Train Your Puppy?

Yes, your puppy is instinctively a den animal. Just like a natural den in the wild, a crate provides a safe and comforting space where your pup can feel secure. When given the opportunity, puppies naturally gravitate toward a den because it brings them comfort. A crate should always be a calm, safe retreat - never a form of punishment.

A crate provides you with the opportunity to relax or get things done without constantly monitoring your puppy. It also aids in training by limiting mistakes to when you're available and ready to correct them. Since dogs instinctively avoid soiling their dens, a crate is an excellent tool for potty training as well.

Tips for Crate Training Your Puppy

  • Pick a crate that is only large enough for the puppy to stand up and turn around - any larger and he may soil a corner where he does not sleep.
  • Start to feed meals in the crate to create a positive association.
  • Give high value longer lasting treats and chews in the crate to give your dog an activity.
  • Randomly drop bite size treats in the crate without your dog knowing so they become curious and start to sniff them out!
  • Supervise your puppy for safety.

An anxious dog scratched and damaged a bathroom door due to separation anxiety.

Is Your Pup Showing Signs of Separation Anxiety?

If your dog howls, whines, barks or is destructive when you leave them, they may be suffering from separation anxiety. Separation anxiety in dogs occur when they become distressed and anxious when left alone or separated from their owners. Symptoms can materialize differently in different dogs and in different situations, but may include:

  • Excessive vocalization (howling, barking)
  • Inappropriate toileting
  • Destructive behavior (chewing, digging)
  • Excessive panting
  • Pacing and drooling

Tips for Managing Your Dog's Anxiety

  • Start creating distance inside, where your dog can see you but can’t reach you. For example, you can place your dog in a crate or behind a gate.
  • Next, practice separating from your dog in a way that they can’t see you but still know you’re nearby. For example, you could be in your bedroom with the dog outside the door. Once your dog is comfortable with this, gradually increase the time before practicing leaving the house.
  • Do not coddle your dog when they are barking, howling or whining. They could mistake this as praise and can make the behavior worse.
  • Cameras can be a helpful tool to monitor your dog while away.
  • Dog calming music can be helpful too!
