Derek has worked with muffin for a year now and we’re extremely thankful for his knowledge & expertise. We have a 2 year old mini goldendoodle with never ending energy and saw fantastic results just after one visit. if you want to “speak” dog or actually teach them how do the things you want them to do, i couldn’t recommend them enough!
Lisette and Derek are great trainers and truly understand how to speak dog. They care deeply about my precious 8-year old Samson the Pittmaraner, and because of this his behavior improved within days, with reinforcement throughout the month.
He went from restless to calm, reactive with the leash to respectful with it, destroying toys in seconds to respecting it/leaving it alone when asked, and more!
I love that they teach me to understand my dog so I can develop a stronger relationship with him.
Will definitely recommend Bark Busters to anyone with any dog of ANY age (even older dogs).
Lisette and Derek knows everything you need to know about your dogs. They help the owners to understand the dog behaviors, foods, health… everything! They Always response promptly whenever you and your furry friends need them. As first time dog owners we feel so lucky to have them around , we really appreciate their kindness and professional service in the past years. Bark Buster can make your life easier and happier for sure! 🐕 ❤️❤️❤️🐕
I can’t recommend Bark Busters enough. My girlfriend and I have two medium to large sized dogs (a pitbull mix and a Belgian Malinois). When we tried to introduce them on our own they did not get along at all—were very aggressive and tried to attack each other through the fence constantly . We were moving in together and needed the dogs to get along in the new house. We called Bark Busters and Derek showed us different training techniques and put us on a 5 week regimen. We stuck to the regimen and techniques and we were able to move in with the dogs loving each other. Derek was available for questions throughout the process and continually checked up on us because he genuinely cared about our dogs. Bark Busters was a life saver
Short version: highly recommend Derek! Has helped my dogs through basic training and more severe problems like resource guarding, trauma incidents and just always getting back to me very quickly when I msg him with random questions. Very much appreciated! Read on for detailed review :p
I have been a client of Barkbusters for a little over a year now and trainer has been Derek-who is the best trainer I could’ve asked for really! I highly recommend him to every dog owner!! I have labradoodles and when I first hired Derek they had zero training and were wild! He helped me get them potty trained within a week. Then, taught me lots of the basics and then other things I wanted them to do that were to my standards of training (I like them a little wild and fun still lol!) recall, staying away from front door, not running out open door, not begging for food in my face, walking without pulling, stopping resource guarding (list goes on and on) it definitely takes time and consistency but the many things he’s taught me has worked. Also-he is so knowledgeable about everything dog related like nutritional stuff too which absolutely has an effect on dogs health and behavior! He taught me about what to feed and how much (got me to watch a great documentary about dog food that changed my life too lol) how much exercise my dogs need exactly and all these things really made a difference for us. I can now take my dogs everywhere I go as service animals due to his training! Literally just took one of them to Disneyland with my toddler and he had a blast too. Lol.
The best thing I love about him and Barkbusters is that they will train your dog for the rest of their life if you should need it (you won’t lol!) but-things have occasionally popped up where I freak out and need dog advice whether it be nutritional advice or behavioral and I send him a text and he always remembers who I am and gets back to me within an hr or 2, and sometimes even quicker. Always gives me answers and really helps me get my situation under control.
One of my dogs was giving me lots of problems with sudden and pretty severe resource guarding when he was like 10-12 months old maybe..he was able to help me through it and now my dog is 2 and hasn’t had any issues whatsoever around our other dogs or any other dogs he’s around. :)
Recently, I accidentally slammed my cars door on my dogs tail and my dog started acting different around me at times, and refused to get in my car again. I msgd Derek and he listened to me talk a lot and gave me advice on how to use positive reinforcement to get him back into my car and explained and gave tips and I followed exactly what he said and in 1-2 weeks he was hopping back in my car on his own and totally forgot the trauma response he had built.
Today, I had a random dog question and even though I don’t need training these days, I texted him (late at night) and he was kind enough to get back to me shortly after that even though it was late! So honestly, he’s not just great at training but I feel he is genuinely a good person who cares about all dogs, and truly cares about his clients too. He’s never tried to upsell other services or products I don’t need and just gives good advice and info which as a lifelong dog owner I’m always going to need lol.
Also, his wife is a trainer too at Barkbusters! Her name is lisette! I only had her come out once or twice when my dogs were puppies and I was sooooo impressed by her too!!! My crazy puppies got in line instantly just having her in their presence!! I was shocked!!! Lol
Overall, I have been very happy with Barkbusters and I can’t speak for all their trainers but I can definitely recommend Derek. He really cares about every dog! Thanks for always being there for me and my pups! <3
Bark Busters is the best! We are so happy with the results from day 1. Lissette was so amazing. She has shown us techniques that has solved so many issues. Their training techniques work with no treats & no force. She fixed 5 issues in the first session. She is very knowledgable & professional. We highly recommend them. You will be amazed. I would give them 10 stars if I could!
I was never a dog person. I didn’t mind dogs but I just never wanted one of my own. I was going through a difficult time in my life and was gifted a super energetic and anxious puppy. I had decided training was the way to go and met with several trainers whom all had different methods of training. I didn’t know the first thing about having a puppy. I checked out Bark Busters and Derek came to my home and explained the program to me. This was the first trainer that told me straight up that I had a good puppy but I myself needed to be trained as well. He and his wife Lissette have forever changed my relationship with my dog Ramzi. Every time I reach out to them I get a response with questions about what is going on with Ramzi’s behavior and if anything has changed in his schedule, his eating habits, environmental factors. While most trainers have one answer for each problem they dig deep to get to the root of the problem. Ramzi was constantly barking at anyone walking by making our walks brutal. Lissette had me meet her in a public setting and showed me a few technics to get him to stop barking. I couldn’t believe it. He listened to her and stopped barking at anyone walking by. The Anovick’s have treated and cared for Ramzi as if he is their own dog. I am so grateful for them because Ramzi was just able to take a 5 hour flight with me and was so well behaved. None of this would have been possible without them. They helped me work through my own anxiety that Ramzi was mirroring. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to be apart of their lifetime training program. I know anytime I need them they are here for Ramzi and I.
I learned of Bark Busters through my mom who had adopted a Chihuahua about a year ago. I was impressed at how much Buddy improved through Lisette's training and the tools she gave my mom.
But then there's my dog. I rescued little Justice (also a Chi) in September 2018. He had been brutally attacked -probably by another dog- and was rescued from a high kill shelter in San Bernardino. For six weeks he was in foster care healing from his serious wounds.
Due to his trauma I didn't want to enforce any rules. I didn't want to hurt him by pulling on the leash or really dominate him in any way. You can imagine where this is going...
So nearly four years later my dog has developed an OCD behavior where he literally eats anything--indoors or outdoors--roams about the apartment appearing stressed or starving, and all of this making so much anxiety for me. We have had too many emergency vet visits to count. Close calls where he has eaten sego palm, etc.
About a month ago I couldn't take anymore. My vet here in LA where I live said there was nothing I could do. This is just how Justice will always be. Totally in despair, I asked my mother if I could get in contact with Lisette. I figured maybe if he got training it would help a little. I didn't have much hope but thought it would be a last ditch effort.
Well, upon my first appointment with Lisette, she assured me the numerous muzzles I had bought for Justice would not be necessary. She said by ME being a leader, this would completely change the dynamic between Justice and I. She listed a few different reasons why he has been eating everything, 1) his diet, 2) my lack of leadership and therefore his insecurity, and 3) trauma from before.
We dove into the training! Wow. I'll be honest it was really hard at first. I was really scared I would hurt him. I was also pretty uncertain this was going to work. Literally from the first time she walked him outside and then taught me how to walk him with the Bark Busters harness, the behavior stopped. Stopped!
Here's the thing: you have to do the work. You have to be consistent. But Lisette is amazing. She breaks everything down, supplies you with everything you need (videos, harness, accessories), and is very accessible/communicative. This program has changed my dog and I am thrilled. My stress level is down, Justice's stress level is down. It is all around amazing.
I realize this is a long review but it is for a good reason. Please do yourself a favor: if your dog is having behavioral issues--or even if they aren't yet--learn how to take care of them well. That is what they deserve. It isn't true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, you can. I was probably the one who was more unteachable lol. But in the end this training is helping my dog and me so much.
This is two thumbs and four paws up--way up--for Lisette and Bark Busters! Don't wait, book with them now. Thank you!
Lissette and Derek have been THE reason our pup has made improvements in behavior, nutrition and sleep. As brand new dog owners, we had no clue what we were doing. At the first visit we developed a plan of what we wanted to work on and learned skills that same day. Not only do they make the time to come to our home when needed, they are available for (sometimes) daily texting of questions, updates or clarifications, and actually encourage the communication. One of the most important things they taught us in the process is that progress is 100% based on our commitment to doing the work. When we don't do our homework or are not consistent, it shows in his behavior. Then they come back and get us back on the right path again. This definitely an investment in our pup and it isn't cheap. Sometimes you get what you pay for, in the case of Bark Busters, you get so much more. They are worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY. Your dog will thank you!
