Home Dog Training in Richmond, Virginia!

Are you struggling with basic puppy training (chewing, crate training, nipping, potty training)? Does your dog take you for walks around your neighborhood or become reactive to other dogs or people when on a leash? Long stretches of time at home has led many dogs to suffer from separation anxiety - we can help!

Welcome, I am Kyle Milwit, your Bark Busters Dog Trainer and Dog Behavioral Therapist in Richmond. Becoming a trainer with Bark Busters was the best professional move I ever made. l love working with people, and having spent years as an account manager in corporate America, I have always valued the relationships with my clients.

I have always been a dog lover. Growing up, I had a golden retriever and a golden lab. 'Sherlock' and 'Muggsy' were a huge part of my youth and although they have been gone for about 30 years, I still dream about them to this day. I currently have a Beagle Lab that brings unconditional love, joy, and laughter to my wife, kids, and I.

Blending my love for dogs and people is the perfect match, and I am passionate about working with you and your dog(s). I first learned about Bark Busters from my cousin, Scott Schwab, who has been a Bark Busters trainer for nearly 20 years. He loves his career more than anyone I know, and I am grateful to follow in his footsteps. Making a positive difference in the lives of others has always driven me.  The fact that I get to do that for people and their dogs is something that I value tremendously.

For more than 30 years, Bark Busters has worked with dog owners and their canine companions to resolve severe dog behavior issues, teach dog obedience, and train puppies - with the goal of helping families live happier lives together with their dogs.

I train dog owners and dogs. I teach pet parents the same natural communication methods that dogs understand by instinct. Miscommunication is often the cause of many problems, and this holds true with dog owners and their dogs. I help clear up the miscommunication, which is often at the root of many of your dog's behavioral issues, by teaching everyone in the house to speak the same language - dog!

In home dog training. Dogs learn best in a safe and familiar environment without distractions and/or disruptions. So, I come to your home, where most of your dog behavior issues either occur or begin, in order to build a foundation for better dog behavior. This means faster, longer-lasting solutions for you and your dog.

Dog-friendly training methods. I empower dog owners with effective, simple, time-efficient, and cruelty-free dog training techniques. No harmful methods. No unnecessary treats. When you learn to "speak dog," you'll see results in your dog's bad behavior, and nurture a positive relationship with your dog based on trust and mutual respect.

Kyle has been a joy and Blessing to work with. We are so grateful for Kyle’s help with our dog Bear (age 4). With just a couple of sessions, we have already had a positive response with Bear and his interaction with others. He is such a sweet dog, but became anxious and protective when visitors would come over. With Kyle’s teaching, we were able to help Bear know we were in charge and he didn’t have to protect us. This has helped him to calm down with visitors. Specifically, Bear no longer growls when being petted and for the first time, friends and family are able to see the sweet boy we know. Kyle has also helped us with walking Bear, who is 85lbs. He no longer leads us on the walks, but instead is able to walk right next to us. Kyle’s training and techniques have given us the ability to feel more comfortable having company over and knowing they will be able to interact with Bear and enjoy him as much as we do. We are forever grateful for Kyle and highly recommend him!
Kyle is great! His training method is effective, logical & kind. I found Bark Busters & Kyle on Google when searching for a behavioral training program for our two Frenchies. Kyle listened to all of our concerns. He gave us simple, effective strategies to implement immediately while outlining a “big picture,” comprehensive plan for managing our pups behavior. We saw results after his first visit. Kyle clearly loves what he does and is an effective educator & communicator. It was easy to call the general Bark Buster number to get information and schedule our initial session. Kyle has been easy to communicate with directly ever since. It’s a hefty investment but well worth it. Highly recommend!
Where do I even begin - Kyle came into our lives exactly when we needed him. My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our first child in March of this year and were beyond thrilled! However, not long after we found out we were pregnant two of our dogs, Lexi and Lucy (pictured) started exhibiting sibling “rivalry” behavior and were seemly trying to be overly protective of me towards one another. They have always cuddled, played well together, and never had issues, but after 3 incidents in which I had to physically intervene between them, my husband and I decided to seek out some professional help before our baby’s arrival. After meeting Kyle, I knew right away how helpful and supportive he would be throughout this process. In working with each of our dogs individually on their impulse control and, most importantly, training us to teach our dogs that we are the pack leaders, I can confidently say that Lexi and Lucy are slowly gaining confidence around each other again. They cuddle on the couch together (as pictured) and play together again, which we didn’t think would be a possibility after the events that occurred earlier in the year. Kyle gave us the tools, skills, and support to help restore their relationship and we are so thankful. He also gave us helpful tips on how to better prepare our pack for baby’s arrival. He is a stand up guy and exudes passion for what he does. Anytime we need support outside of sessions, Kyle is there. I cannot recommend him enough. Thank you doesn’t do what you did for our family justice, Kyle. We are so so grateful for you!
I am so thankful for Kyle and the entire Bark Busters team. Kyle has truly given me the tools to help both Ozzy and myself have a better, healthier, safer, and more fun time on walks and home alone. I can’t wait to keep doing this work with him and see how much more he continues to progress. Thank you again!
Kyle is an amazing trainer! We are so lucky to have found him. In our first meeting he clearly understood our concerns. We have a Rotty mix, who is sweet, but a strong puller. We went outside (where the squirrels keep taunting our pup!) and Kyle showed us some simple techniques that started working right away. He followed up our first meeting with a detailed email that included notes and videos to refer to when we are unsure, or to show us new techniques. All of his training is based on behavioral techniques that are kind and not punative.

In addition to his training, he provided us with a new collar and some other "tools" to make training Ranger easier.
The techniques he showed us to keep Ranger from pulling, started working immediately. We highly recommend Kyle for training your dog (and yourselves) with easy and practical methods. You'll be happy you did.
Our dogs are Blackjack (9y Rat Terrier mix) and Frenchy (2 1/2y Pitbull mix). We've had Blackjack since she was a puppy. We adopted Frenchy in June 2024. Blackjack has never liked big dogs on sight. When we took Blackjack to RAL to meet Frenchy, she seemed okay with him. Not so when we were home. Blackjack was very aggressive toward Frenchy. She actually bit his lip and broke the skin. Fortunately, Frenchy didn't react. After our first three hours session with Kyle, Blackjack stopped being aggressive toward Frenchy. While they will probably never play together, they do sleep together. Thank you so much Kyle!

We were having aggression, possession, barking, leash manners, table manners, and separation anxiety with our dog, and were losing hope. We got our dog during Covid so he is not well socialized and has anxiety and attachment issues. We had tried the Bark Busters program before when our dog was younger with another trainer in a different area before we moved to Richmond and unfortunately, it didn't go well. But then, along came Kyle. He turned it around for us.

Kyle has been an amazing dog trainer and the best one my husband and I have had. He cares and wants to get to know his clients to build a lasting relationship with them which is something that I personally appreciate. Kyle told us that he wanted to be a part of our dog Wade's success story which was really nice to hear. Our dog is going to turn 5 in December. We have been seeing Kyle once a month for about two months now and we have seen much improvement in our dog. Kyle is very knowledgeable in his work and you can tell that he has a passion for and loves what he does! He always has a positive and can-do attitude and is more than willing to go above and beyond at training. Our dog Wade has already gotten so much better with table manners, door possession, and his separation anxiety. We have even gotten two compliments from the apartment complex we live in saying that our dog has been much better with his barking and separation anxiety which is a HUGE WIN for us!!

I could write so much more, but needless to say, if you are looking for a great dog trainer who knows what he's talking about and is passionate about helping people understand how to speak "dog" look no further. Kyle is the best and we will continue to use him for the lifetime of our dog.
My partner and I were talking about our dog's barking problem as he barks at everything and everyone, even us. The next day we were at our vet's office for an appt when we saw a brochure for Kyle at Bark Busters. Thank God we made that call to Kyle! The cost almost scared us off, but we didn't know what else to do, and felt like Buster was worth it, so we had to give it a try. Kyle came to the house and listened (and made a list) of all of our issues with Buster. Then Kyle started teaching us what to do in each scenario. We listened and began practicing with Buster immediately. He also emailed us helpful short videos demonstrating the techniques. We started seeing a change in Buster within the first few days. It seemed Buster was enjoying not having to be the "head of our pack" and started acting more like the dog we used to know. We became a lot less stressed as he was listening to us and changing right before our eyes. Buster used to go bananas with barking whenever someone knocked on the door or pressed the Ring doorbell. Now he sits away from the door until we tell him it's ok to greet the guest. The best part is that Kyle will come to the house and help us for as long as we need him.... For the rest of our dog’s life. You can't possibly put a price on our peace of mind and getting the calmer side of our dog back. He's a delight now. Thanks Kyle! 🐾

Kyle is super friendly and very professional! I would highly recommend Kyle! He gave our family a lot of insight in handling our nervous labrador….He is the real deal.
We met with Kyle yesterday for our first day of training with our Mini Golden Doodle Sandy. He was right on time, very polite and energetic. Without having to be asked he removed his shoes as soon as he came in the door. Sandy took to him like an old friend. Before going into training he took an hour to find out what our experience with dogs was, what we were having issues with and what were we doing now training wise. He was non-judgmental and very positive. We like that there is no punishment and no treats. He's teaching us how to communicate with Sandy and be the leader. We would have never figured this out on our own. He left us tools, techniques and some homework. We're looking forward to our next lesson and reaping the rewards of our progress.
Kyle was very informative. He helped us with future training of our puppy
In our first session, Kyle’s focus on helping to develop Winston’s relationship with me as he grows from puppy to adult dog is a great start! Given Kyle’s tutelage, I’ve been able to build upon Winston’s trust and leadership in me. Kyle likes to know the background and surroundings of each dog, which helps everyone to understand the why behind the behavior. While there’s still a ways to go, I’m very optimistic that Winston will grow into a trusting, well-rounded dog. Thank you, Kyle!
I recently did training with Kyle for my bulldog Dolly, and it was the best decision I’ve made for my dog! My mom found out about him through a radio interview on WRVA, and I’m so glad she was listening at that time. Kyle was great from the start - before I even booked him, he agreed to have a phone call with me to talk about the process and answer my questions. My bulldog was having some issues with other dogs and thinking she had to protect me, and barking at dogs or people through the glass door. After just the first session with Kyle, I started to see a change in her behavior. Kyle helped me to teach Dolly that I’m the one in charge and don’t need her to protect me all the time. Since our sessions, she’s become a happier dog - she's not stressed or worried all the time about having to protect me, and she’s able to just be a dog. Kyle was great with dolly, he’s an amazing dog trainer, and more than that he’s just a great person. I’d recommend him to anyone looking for a trainer to help their dog have a happier life!
Kyle did an excellent job and I look forward to working with him during future sessions.
I started working with Kyle Milwit, Bark Busters trainer, in November 2023. I had just adopted an adult dog and needed help integrating her into my home and with my other dog, who I have had for 12 years. Kyle “trained” me and gave me the tools necessary to safely integrate the dogs and ensure I remained in control as the pack leader.

Within a few sessions (immediate results after the first session) he helped me take two adult female dogs that were very on edge with each other (and would fight) and create an environment/dynamic that allowed them to both feel safe and confident with each other and allowed me to be a better leader of my pack. After less than 6 weeks of consistent training they are now cuddling together on the same dog beds and are inseparable.

Working with Kyle has been a game changer! I appreciate his methods and training style and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking help with dog behavior issues and obedience training.
Kyle was super helpful with Emma. Within a couple of days she started doing much better with jumping and her other issues. He explained it in a way that was easy to understand. I am thankful that he will be able to help in the future if more issues arise.
Kyle did an excellent job of explaining the training techniques and demonstrating how to use them with Charlie. He was obviously very knowledgeable and intuitive regarding the mind of a dog and how to communicate with them. Charlie was very in tune with Kyle and very responsive to his commands and directives. Kyle was patient and listened to my questions and respected my input. I can already see some improvement in the past 2 days.
We can’t recommend Kyle enough! He’s very easy going, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. We have two lovable Frenchies w/ several behavioral issues, but after just a few sessions we’ve seen dramatic improvement and our relationship w/ them is vastly improving week over week. Kyle is a tremendous resource and we look forward to working with him as needed in the future.
First meeting was very informative. Kyle gave us great tools to work with. Can’t wait to practice with Bane.
I was hopeful yet skeptical when we began our search for a dog trainer/behaviorist when Holly began her aggression towards her other pack members. I am so happy to say after one visit with Kyle, we see a major difference in Holly! Her whole demeanor has changed and we have been given the proper tools to ensure continued success! Thank you so much, Kyle, for helping us obtain normalcy again in our home!
We’re very excited about what we learned from Kyle yesterday!
Kyle did an outstanding job teaching us the system and did so in a way that was very natural combining immediate attention to Oakie’s issues and the flow of the presentation.
I highly recommend Kyle! It was a wonderful experience!
Kyle has been amazing with training our puppy (or actually training us) to understand and interact with Buie so that we understand each other. We are much slower learners than our dog but the changes have been significant. Puppy nipping has reduced considerably and his walking on leash, waiting, and behavior with others is great for a 5 month old. Kyle’s suggestions and demonstrations have made a difference. He has also adapted some training tips so that we are more able to implement them. His willingness to answer calls and emails has helped in between visits. Having him come to our home and work with us in our environment was a great decision and well worth the investment.
Excellent method with almost immediate results. Kyle was great!
It is always hard when you're a new puppy mama. I got my puppy at 3 months old and I needed all the help I could get! Kyle was a God send.

First of all, I kept feeling guilty about all the things I felt I was NOT doing for my puppy. Kyle listened and always told me to stop feeling guilty and he does not judge! And believe me when I say he definitely does not judge!

Kyle has helped strengthen my relationship with my dog by really watching and listening to our interactions. The training is for both mama and dog. He gets to know the dog and the human before helping and giving advice. He caters to us, and that's important to me.

I love working with Kyle and am blessed he's in our life! It means alot to me that he genuinely cares for my baby!
